    Mary Poppins Returns movie

    Genre: Fantasy
    TMDB Rating: 65%

Our Review: ✔ Watched it on 3-7-2024 (PS, HS in Niagara). Long awaited sequel to the orginal great classic. About 54 years later! Wonderful to see Dick Van Dyke in the new film! This is an excellent family movie; and being from Disney, it’s almost a surprise that it lacks their usual woke foolishness. The music is Poppins-style, but not quite as memorable as that of the original. But this is a worthy sequel. The movie continues the sense of enchantment, make-believe, and childhood wonder of the original. Mary Poppins is slightly more human and vulnerable in this version. But she too helps to put things right in a family that needs quite a bit of help and guidance. Excellent performances by:

    • Emily Blunt as Mary Poppins
    • Lin-Manuel Miranda as Jack
    • Meryl Streep as Cousin Topsy
    • Colin Firth as Wilkins / Wolf (voice)
    • Dick Van Dyke as Mr. Dawes Jr.

For us, this movie is a fresh delight in the tradition of the classic. Enjoyment rating: 4 stars.

Clean Review: From a clean standpoint, there are no obvious issues. It’s a family film with a happy, positive, fantasy of childhood make-believe and wonder. An excellent movie with a Clean Rating of 5 (the max).

TMDB: Mary Poppins returns to the Banks family and helps them evade grave dangers by taking them on magical, musical adventures.

Our Review: ✔ Watched it on 3-4-2024 approximately (PS, HS in Niagara). One of the greatest classics of all time. A perfect movie in every way. A true family movie. Profound and rousing music, great story, and cinematography. The movie creates a sense of magic (in the sense of enchantment, make-believe, and childhood wonder). Mary Poppins puts things right in a disfunctional family in which the parents are uninvolved with the kids. The nanny shows that anything is possible and makes life delightful and safe for the children. And it ends happily. We like that kind of conclusion to a movie! For HS and me, it’s always been one of our favorite movies. The first time we saw it was as kids, and we’ve watched it many time since… Enjoyment rating: 5 stars.

Clean Review: From a clean standpoint, there are no obvious issues whatsoever, unless you want to go down the path of wondering if she’s a witch. We have pondered that over the years, but in the end have concluded that this is just a positive portrayal of make-believe and childhood wonder. An excellent movie with a Clean Rating of 5 (the max).

TMDB: Mr Banks is looking for a nanny for his two mischievous children and comes across Mary Poppins, an angelic nanny. She not only brings a change in their lives but also spreads happiness.
