Our Comments on Merit: 9-01-2023 at the theater (PS, HS, AD). 4.5 star. This is one of the best crafted MI movies in the series. It’s complex story, non-stop action, and premise are top notch. It was wonderful to watch it with our 18 year old grandson. This is “part one” of the two-part seventh film in the franchise. With the provisos noted below, this is an action film that gets almost everything right. There are wonderful daring stunts, and the entire movie is exciting to watch end-to-end! It delivers!
Clean Rating Comments: For the most part, this movie is more family friendly than your average James Bond movie. Bad language is limited to “goddammit,” “hell,” and an unfinished “what the fu…” There’s also a scene with mostly nude gyrating dancers that grated on your sense of propriety. It was quite disturbing to me, but at least it was brief. Also be aware, the violence and danger are constant, with some intense fight scenes. On the plus side, there is an abundance of positive messaging. The propriety of doing what is right is a strong theme (in this case, almost nobody knows which end is actually “up”). Hunt and his team have to sort that out. And the team shows tremendous strength of character with their courage, teamwork, and long-suffering tenacity. We give it a clean rating of 3. 3 = “Average for a Mainstream Film (several moral* issues; watch at your discretion).”
TMDB: “Ethan Hunt and his IMF team embark on their most dangerous mission yet: To track down a terrifying new weapon that threatens all of humanity before it falls into the wrong hands. With control of the future and the world’s fate at stake and dark forces from Ethan’s past closing in, a deadly race around the globe begins. Confronted by a mysterious, all-powerful enemy, Ethan must consider that nothing can matter more than his mission—not even the lives of those he cares about most.”
