Our Comments:√ 10-05-2023 at our place in Niagara (PS, HS). The checkmark means we own it. This is a fine classic film that presents a look into 1903/1904 St. Louis family life leading up to the World’s Fair. It’s a pretty nice classic but could have been better crafted. In its slight awkwardness, it lacks some of the well rounded, easy-to-watch feel of the very best classics of the 30’s to early 60’s. And why put in that scene about the town kids at Halloween running amuck? At any rate, it’s still quite a nice film and may be worth it if you’re in the mood for a 40’s classic. Enjoyment rating: 3.5 star.
TMDB: “The life of a St. Louis family in the year before the 1904 St. Louis World’s Fair.”
My Comments: 08-29-2023 (approx date) at A&C’s place in Burlington (PS, HS, ASB, CB). Rented from the Library. Excellent portayal of the real event, good story, and execution of all the aspects of filmaking (cinematography, screenplay, sound, acting, etc. We enjoyed it very much. Enjoyment Rating: 4 star.
Clean Rating: 4 (Quite Decent). As far as we could see, there were no moral issues.
My Comments: 07-23-2023 at our place in Niagara (PS, HS). Not sophisticated but adorable 50’s musical comedy romance. There’s joy here.
TMDB: “Ruth and her beautiful sister Eileen come to New York’s Greenwich Village looking for “fame, fortune and a ‘For Rent’ sign on Barrow Street”. They find an apartment, but fame and fortune are a lot more elusive. Ruth gets the attention of playboy publisher Bob Baker when she submits a story about her gorgeous sister Eileen. She tries to keep his attention by convincing him that she and the gorgeous, man-getting Eileen are one and the same person.”

My Comments: √ 04/25/2023, our place in Niagara with NS. About our 15th time; you expect the gags by now but still a very funny movie. 4 star.
TMBB: “A trio of unemployed silent film actors are mistaken for real heroes by a small Mexican village in search of someone to stop a malevolent bandit.”
My Comments: 04/10/2023 at our place in Niagara with NS. Watched on Netflix. Heartwarming and inspirational, endearing cast. Kevin James has said that he wanted to create an inspirational movie and even to portray someone who has Christ-like qualities. His faith in God is evident in how he co-wrote and produced this film. “I am involved in my faith,” he told Catholic News Service after the launch of the film. “You have a platform and you don’t want to do anything that doesn’t glorify God in every way,” James told them. He went on to say, “I was born and raised Catholic and absolutely love my faith and learn more and more about it all the time. It’s nice to have that going into whatever you do, whatever part of life you take upon yourself.”
MovieGuide.org: “HERE COMES THE BOOM has a Christian worldview where the characters read scripture, pray and sacrifice themselves for others. Kevin James’ character has a complete transformation once he sacrifices himself to save the music department… It does have fighting due to the story line, so some caution is advised.”
My assessment: Excellent movie. 4 1/2 star enjoyment rating.
TMDB: “A high school biology teacher moonlights as a mixed-martial arts fighter in an effort to raise money to save the school’s music program.”
√ 03-30-2023 at our place in Niagara (PS, HS). A bit choppy and awkward, but it still prevails as an iconic flick. Grant came out of retirement for this, and Kelly met Prince Rainier while filming it. Great South Of France scenery!
One of Charlie Chaplin’s masterpieces, this epic drama is a touching story about the power of life and love. The finale is sure to draw tears of happiness and heartbreak.
