TMBB: “A trio of unemployed silent film actors are mistaken for real heroes by a small Mexican village in search of someone to stop a malevolent bandit.”
One of Charlie Chaplin’s masterpieces, this epic drama is a touching story about the power of life and love. The finale is sure to draw tears of happiness and heartbreak.
√ Watched it 03-18-2023 at our place in Niagara (PS, HS). Excellent interaction between the film’s 3 main characters (Cary Grant, Jean Arthur, and Ronald Colman). It’s an excellent commentary on the interplay on law, morality, and common sense in society. There’s romance brewing, but you can’t tell right away who’s going to get the girl. A wonderful classic.

My Comments: The main character, Max (Russell Crowe), is a London-based high flying stock trader who is a selfish opportunist. An interesting story-line is interspersed with pleasant childhood memories which take place at his uncle’s winery in France. He returns to the winery and its lush vineyards after receiving a notice that his uncle and childhood mentor has died and left the property to him. The movie weaves a pleasant and interesting storyline.
The movie has quite a few moral issues, which include an unmarried couple having sex, partial nudity and about 20 obscenities. This movie is not necessarily a show-stopper for adult viewers. not illicit and the salty language and the occasional moral oversteps do fit in with the setting of this movie. But these are the parameters to consider. This is a witty and intelligently written story that has the beautiful backdrop of vineyards and French culture, and was therefore very endearing in that regard.
ENJOYMENT RATING: I give it 4 stars.Clean rating: 2.5 (quite a few moral issues; watch at your discretion).

Our Comments: This is a well-made movie and it holds up after all these years. The movie is full of suspense, action, and drama. The character development is top-notch. The story is emotionally riveting and it makes you root for Jason Bourne. Although he was a trained assassin, essentially brainwashed by the government. Now in his state of amnesia, he’s basically a good guy that is thrust into all kinds of mayhem by a super-secret department of the CIA who now want to get rid of him. You want him to succeed. Enjoyment Rating: 4.

The frequent strong language and the violence make this movie unsuitable for children and young teens. For adults, we would agree that it deserves some leeway because of its other merits. Discerning adults can make a choice here. With these provisos, this is one of the finest action movies you’ll experience. Note: the sexual side of things is not much of a problem. Nothing graphic.
CLEAN RATING: Clean 3= Average for a Mainstream Film (several moral issues; watch at your discretion)
